Where did you find in the book that this play is LEGAL? The very astute people on this board have convinced me that the play is legal, but if I recall correctly, even the experts on this board cannot point out a rule or play that states that this play is LEGAL. Instead, they will ask you to show them a rule that states it is ILLEGAL. Or, they will refer you to a NCAA ruling.
I wish the Fed would include this play in the casebook or come up with an interp.
