I blew both of my achilles a few years ago. What was recommended and worked for me was stretching them out everyday. On days I have games or just go for a run I still stretch them for at least 10 minutes per foot and then again after the game. My running shoes I replace every 3 months and I have 2 pair of game shoes and rotate them every game.
