It is an honorary position in SB. After the pre-game you never address them again. Very different in Volleyball where the Captains are the only ones that can communicate with the referee during a match. (The coach can if she is willing to give up one of her two precious time outs.)

BTW the SB girls take it seriously. When I was coaching I kept track of my captain selections to insure that all the players had the opportunity before the season was over.
