Ref18, I agree with you here.

We have a kid that plays every year but has not improved at all. If he gets the ball passed to him he usually trips and goes to the floor where he starts the crying bit. The other kids are good about not teasing him. I falls onto us and both coaches to get him back up and moving. Luckily the last time he was, somewhat, in the motion of shooting (NBA continuation rules applied here) Got him up and on the line he shot the 1st crying and by the 2nd he was good. This is only possible because we know the kids. In your situation I would have done nothing different.
