in Kentucky..

beginning of the year...coaches are sent a pre season card to rate our 40 officials in our region that they would like to see during the year... if you are in there top 10 or so you will probably get some of there games...they are allowed to scratch 3 officials for the year....

at the end of the year, coaches meet with our assignor and the coaches are giving a sheet with all our names on it and are allowed to give us points from 80-40 pts. 80 being the top official... our assignor then is given the opportunity to add from 0 to 20 points to each one of us giving us a total of up to 100... then we are put in the order that we finish from highest to lowest...the top 24 call the 4 district tourneys in our region, the top 12 call the regional tournament...and if you are in the top 3 you have a chance to call in the state tourney.....

so in other words the coaches get 80% and the assignor gets 20% of the vote to see who gets to do tournament games...it's really just a popularity contest with the coaches since they have so much power with there 80%...it really is not a good way to do things...

i think the assignor should get the 80% and the coaches 20%
