I read Friday Night Lights a few years ago. Good book and certainly Permian H.S.'s football program was pretty out-of-control.
Lucky for me, I just don't see that in the local areas where I ref. Sure there is the occasional parent who is blinded by the light, but most players, coaches and parents that I know are playing, coaching and spectating for the enjoyment of the game.
