FED: "Direct" T's are charged directly to the person committing the infraction. If that person is "bench personnel", then the head coach is "indirectly" caharged with a T. That indirect T doesn't count toward the team totals, but if the head coach earn a combined total of 3 Ts (or 2 direct Ts), the coach is ejected.

NCAA: Direct T's are (generally) for unsporting conduct. Indirect T's are (generally) for everything else.
