Celebrity, a tribute to Berra's unique status in American culture, showcases Yogi figurines, comic books, cereal boxes, magazine covers, and even
Berra's cartoon namesake, Yogi Bear.
[/B][/QUOTE]Aaaaargh. Wrong, wrong,wrong.....
The cartoon Yogi didn't come along for at least 10-12 years after Berra got his nickname. A friend of Larry Berra saw a movie that had an Indian snake charmer- also called a
yogi- in it. He said that the snake charmer walked just like his buddy, Larry, and he started calling Larry-
Yogi. It caught on and he was Yogi Berra ever since. When Yogi Bear came along, the rumor was that Yogi Berra was actually
his namesake. Iow, t'was the other way around.
