In a rather rowdy game, with action at the OTHER end of the ice, two players skate up to the goalie, grab his stick and pull it away from him, and skate the stick over to their bench and pass it off the ice. The officials apparently don't see this happen (as the action was at the other end) but the goalie is now yelling to the refs that the other team stole his stick (and the officials see that, for whatever reason, the goalie no longer has a stick). The opposing team now skates down the ice and scores a goal on the stickless goalie. The officials count the goal. (BTW at this point the scored-on team skates off the ice and forfeits the game. The stick is never recovered and the players take up a collection to buy the goalie a new stick.)

What SHOULD have happened here? Thanks.
