When a technical foul has occured prior to the jump ball, the game is to considered to have started with the action that was deemed a technical foul, therefore the game has already started...
MTD,
I would very much like to see something written down that says this. I do not believe that this is correct. Until proven otherwise, I will maintain that the game/1st Quarter begins when the ball first becomes live for the technical FTs as stated in 5-5-6.

I am talking about the reality of the situation. The rules state that any player(s) including incoming substitute(s) can shoot the free throws that are the penalty for a technical foul. That rule trumps that rule of changing the starting line-up after the ten minute mark. When a technical foul occurs before the end of the ten minute countdown before the "start" of the game, the game has begun because an infraction of the rules has occured. Some infraction of the rules occured before the expiration of the ten minute countdown before the scheduled jump ball to start the game; therefore the game, for certain administrative purposes, has started with the rules infraction and B6 and possibly B7 can enter and shoot the free throws.

I am also talking about the reality of the situation, Mark. As Nevada said, NFHS rule 5-5-6 states that Each quarter or extra period begins when the ball first becomes live". That language ia about as clear as concise as it can possibly get. The game starts with the first live ball in the first quarter, by rule! Everything else that you're talking about has occurred in the pregame period, as noted in rule 2-4--i.e. REFEREE'S PREGAME DUTIES". Also see Rule 10-2PENALTY(2a)--i.e. Penalized if discovered before the ball BECOMES LIVE TO START GAME". That's also pretty clear and concise rule book language. It may be a technical point that nobody really cares about, but Nevada is completely correct, as per the language of the rulebook, and that concise rule book language trumps your theory.
