The mechanics for men's and women's are getting closer but there are still some differences. For instance the women's old lead/new trail can bounce the ball to the thrower across the paint instead of switching sides on a throw-in, no long switch (most men's conferences have adopted this), cnter administers first free throw, etc. I've been to a couple of Edgar Cartotto's camps (he writes the mechanics manual) and he said that he's been pushing for both to use the same mechanics for years but the committees seem to like the subtle differences.
