If you decide to get the surgery, just make sure you choose a doctor who has done many, many, many (in the thousands, if possible) of these procedures. I seem to recall, from researching a paper on the procedure, that there are complications in about 10% of these surgeries, but that the complication rate drops dramatically with experience.
If you choose LASIK, I'd recommend getting a second opinion, and it's definately worth a trip to a major tertiary care center with an experienced opthamalogical surgery department.
