OBR 4.08 When the occupants of a player's bench show violent disapproval of an umpire's decision, the umpire shall first give warning that such disapproval shall cease. If such action continues_ PENALTY: The umpire shall order the offenders from the bench to the club house. If he is unable to detect the offender, or offenders, he may clear the bench of all substitute players. The manager of the offending team shall have the privilege of recalling to the playing field only those players needed for substitution in the game.

Back in the early 1950’s National League Umpires had trouble with Brooklyn Dodgers ‘ bench jockeys” who repeatedly questioned home-plate umpire ball-and-strike calls. Several times the plate umpire ejected all of the Dodgers on the bench who were not in the regular lineup that day…

Bill Sharman, the extraordinary basketball player, coach, and front office executive, was one of those Dodgers players who was dismissed in a mass exit. Today he is also a footnote to the trivia baseball history: he has been the only person who never played in a major-league baseball game who was thrown out of one.
