That's because under the NCAA interpretation, runners get what they get but outs are canceled.

In another forum someone wrote that already identifed and posted were 56 errors (or so) in fewer than 56 pages. I haven't found that list, and other than Mark, nobody has reported any typos to me.

If you have clearly identifed mistakes (not disagreements with the rulings but ERRORS), please email me at [email protected]. There's no pay, but I'll certainly give a mention in the 2002 edition to the first person who identifies each error.
There is NO play 73-244; there is a play 73-245 but that is in the next section. The play containing your words appears to be 71244 [note no hyphen; another typo error?].
