Here's what I got from a football...I mean softball...coach the other night.
1. "But blue, she touched the ball while she was in fair territory. Isn't it where the fielder is when she touches the ball?"
2. "But blue, I called time. Isn't the play over when I call time?"
3. "But blue, it's interference on the runner when my fielder ran into her trying to field that pop-up. Isn't it interference on any fly ball?"
4. "If I substitute for my DP, doesn't my FLEX have to leave the game?"
My answers.
1. It's where the ball is in relationship to the line when the fielder touches the ball. It has nothing to do with the fielders position relative to fair/foul.
2. Play isn't dead until I call time...your girl was throwing to second when you called time."
3. The ball was 15 feet from the nearest player when it hit the ground IN FOUL TERRITORY. IT has to be a catchable ball under normal effort.
4. If you substitute for the DP, you are substituting for the DP. If you want the DP to play defense, that's fine, but you're not taking your FLEX out of the game. The only way you get rid of the FLEX as a player is to have the FLEX substitute for the DP.
With every response came "are you sure?" They were really good about it, they seemed to be learning the game as we went.
AM I RIGHT?
