The batter is out if his foot touches the plate.

Better add "and makes contact with the ball." However, many people are not aware of the contact element, so it qualifies as sort of a double myth. When I was 13, I was called out for stepping on the plate even though I did not make contact. Two years later, I was called out for the same thing in school, but I took the issue up with the PU, who conferred with the BU and reversed his call.

Also add to your myths: "The runner has the right-of-way in the baseline."

And: "People who watch a lot of baseball on TV naturally know a lot about the rules."

Another: "The batter is not permitted to wave the bat around over the plate."

(Actually, for all I know, that is a Fed rule.)
