Glen,
Our team played away using outside officials for a game played this past Tuesday.
There was a ruling made on the field that I would like to have confirmation and a ruling from TASO.
R1 on first with 2 outs. Batter hits a home run over the fence in a enclosed park. After batter
rounds the bases and goes into the dugout the base umpires calls the batter
runner out for failure to touch 1st base. The opposing team DID NOT make a appeal at first base.
Umpire just called her out.
I also was wondering in HIGH SCHOOL softball can you make a formal protest to the scorekeeper before
the next pitch is thrown?
Also, to make the proper appeal all defensive players must be on the playing field and pitcher
must toe the rubber with ball in glove or hand and back off rubber and throw ball to missed base
and make the appeal.
Could you get me a ruling from TASO on the following:
1. Is a batted ball over the fence an award? Does the batter runner have to touch all bases?
Can the batter runner run the plane of the bases?
2. Can an UMPIRE call a runner out for missing a base WITHOUT a proper appeal from the defensive team?
3. Can a High School Coach make a formal protest to the score keeper before the next pitch is thrown?
BTW, I did not go to TASO with this...Saw no need. Every
thing could be answered. TEXAS UIL does not allow protest.
