Nope, don't buy into this one. This isn't football, basketball or anything else. When I'm covering a play, I haven't time to check out the uniform or which team would benefit from any call I make. I see the play, I call the play and that's it. I really don't care if it is a winning run or game-ending out, I call what I see. Any umpire who doesn't may not be doing the job for which they are paid.

I do not believe "knowing" what a coach is doing has anything to do with good umpiring
