The DP will always bat in the DP starting position in the batting order. This is a given, and shall not vary, regardless for whom the DP may take the field. If the FLEX bats at all, the Flex will bat only in the starting position of the starting DP.
You are correct, the Defense of the DP and Flex has no affect on the batting order.
