Either someone won't see the shoe lying in the way, and twist their ankle, OR the girl who lost the shoe will have her foot stomped on and break it. Never know what can transpire.
There are shoes flying all over the court, most with feet already in them. The potential to turn an ankle on a shoe is no different with someone's foot in it or not. A shoe is not a safety hazard and there's no sense blowing a play dead because someone loses a shoe. Glasses can break and broken glass is not a good thing to have on a gym floor. Apples and oranges.
