IANAL, but I agree - if they say no (and I can't clearly see one), I believe them and the liability is on the player.
If I see tape where a piercing would routinely be, (ear, nose, lip) they will have to show me that the tape is not covering a piece of jewelry.

No wonder the entire eastern part of the USA is covered in ice and snow, Tony agreed with me. LOL
