To my thinking, the West Vest Platinmum appears best suited for those using the scissors stance. The West Vest Gold is better for those who work heel to toe or a squared off stance. (I really don't know what works best for those who "work" from the knee, probably an old raft protector would be fine since most of them are too lazy to get up between pitches anyway.)
What surprises me is your comment about the vest not being high enough around your neck. From the photos I've seen and looking at umpires who are wearing one, it appears to offer about the best collarbone protection of any on the market. Are you sure you have the straps adjusted correctly?
