Yup,you always wait until the ball comes down. You might give 'em the benefit of the doubt until then.
Did a rec league mens game many years ago. Player did the exact same thing,but as soon as he did it, he looked at me and started hollering "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry....",and went running to catch the ball on the way down. As soon as he caught it, I showed him the T sign, and said "Me too, me too, me too....".
Explained to him later that the apology was nice, and I certainly appreciated it, but I didn't really want everyone in the gym from then on to have a free shot at throwing the ball around, as long as they said they were sorry.
