Its pretty clear that the Yankees would not be in the World Series if it weren't for the bottomless pockets of Mr. Steinbrenner. It has been argued that it was a combination of good trades and great draft selections and credited to the gm. Although I agree as they have developed great players such as Bernie, Jeter, Matsui, and Soriano, I must also argue that other teams have done the same but were unwilling to spend horendous amounts of money to keep them (i.e. Seattle-ARod Tino Martinez, Montreal-Pedro, Gruzdielnki, Floyd, Toronto- Stewart... the list is virtually endless). Furthermore, I feel it is an unfair advantage the yankees have both by having the money to keep (arguably) at least three franchise players on their starting line-up, and because they are willing to spend it. So, my question is, if the Yankees feel they can buy the World Series, who do you think they will buy the MVP title for? You know, as a bit of an early Christmas bonus... Jeter? Bernie? Soriano? Matsui? Rivera? Wells? or what about Clemens... kind of an appreciation gift for taking their money and a ceremonial retirement gift? Words from a broken hearted mariner fan.
