At this point Kansas has only committed two team fouls in the entire seconds half. Therefore, Kansas elects to employ a strategy of fouling four times in the backcourt to waste time. Following the third foul, the officials correctly administer the throw-in at the 28 foot mark on the sideline in the backcourt. However, after the fourth foul in a row (team’s sixth of the half), the administering official may have gotten confused as he conducts the throw-in from the 38-foot mark which indicates the end of the NCAAM’s coaching box. This puts St. John’s ten feet closer to their basket with only 3.9 seconds remaining. Of course, St. John’s inbounds near the jump circle in the back court and their player is able to drive to the basket for a game-winning lay-up which he releases with 0.4 on the clock.
Lesson = officials need to be precise with the throw-in spots near the end of quarters/halves.

Backcourt stoppages are treated just like they were before in NCAA Men's rules. Different than the NF Rules here.
