I've only used this exception a few times as the Lead on a front court endline in the very far corner (almost on the sideline) when I thought that there was going to be one, or two, competitive matchups in the lane.
I do not now when in NF or general mechanics you did not box in the players. This has been my method for as long as I can remember.
