PLAY While defending ball handler A‑1, defender B‑1 fakes being fouled in the lane.
RULING: The officials need to determine when to stop play so that the
offensive team is not penalized for the B‑1’s actions. The ruling official
should display the faking-being-fouled signal and withhold their whistle
until Team A scores (which could include several attempts at the basket
after offensive rebounds), until Team B secures control of the ball, or any
other stoppage occurs. If this is Team B’s first faking‑being‑fouled infraction
of the game, Team B is issued a warning, and play resumes at the point
of interruption. If Team B had previously been warned for faking being
fouled, a team technical foul is charged to Team B. Team A is awarded two
free throws, plus the ball for a division‑line throw‑in, opposite the table.
