Because they're appropriate for basketball and designed in such a way as to be almost impossible to fall off without partially removing the laces.

They are appropriate for basketball and if they are attached properly, they shouldn't fall off, like the original aglets that came with the laces.
I bought replacement aglets for my summer "boat shoes" and they stayed on all summer.
