Works with the stands that "clamp on" to the pole -- often they can't be tightened enough to hold and the clamp slips down.
Buy a bolt (and a nut). Stick the bolt through the hole in the pole just below where the stand shout attach to the pole. Rest the stand on the bolt and tighten the stand. Attach the nut just to keep the bolt from slipping out and the stand from rotating.
