Not picking on Billy, because he's not an NCAA official. But to clarify, contacting the ball after it has touched the backboard is
NOT automatically GT.
For Men, Rule 9.15.3c
When the ball contacts the backboard
and any part of the ball is above
the rim during a field goal attempt, it is considered to be on its downward
flight. In such a case, it is goaltending when the ball is touched by a player
as long as it has a possibility of entering the basket.
For Women, Rule 9.15.5
Art. 5. When the
entire ball is above the level of the ring during a field-goal
try and contacts the backboard, it is considered to be on its downward flight. In
such a case, it is goaltending when a player touches the ball.
It's usually going to be GT in the Men's game, but it still has to meet other criteria.
