While researching to update my list of shot clock states, I came across these tidbits.
… some schools already struggle to find scorekeepers and game-clock operators and that shot-clock operators require a unique skill. “They’re going to have to be a whole lot better than your game-clock operator. The shot-clock operator can’t miss a trick.”
… “we would all say the biggest struggle we have on game night is finding personnel, at least right now. And the shot clock operator is very unique. A lot of times you can find somebody to run the scoreboard because it's just the time and score, but for a shot clock, you have to actually know some of the extended rules."
Just about anyone with a pulse can operate a game clock. Shot clock? One needs some degree of expertise.
Also, the most accurate list of shot clock states that I can come up with at this point in time.
California, Connecticut, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wisconsin. And the District of Columbia.
Unsure about Florida and Illinois, maybe optional for some schools and/or tournaments?
