Jump ball touches -- what counts?

Here's one I've never seen live before in my many years, nor addressed anywhere (not sure why either is, the more I think about it).

But it stumped partner and me yesterday so hoping for collective clarity from the board here.

Opening jump gets tipped once by both jumpers. Ball goes straight up. Red jumper gets up quicker again and bats the ball back to one of his guards with both hands (i.e. eight fingers) touching the ball.

Still OK under the two-touch limit or is this akin to a double-dribble with two hands on the ball the second time? We let it go but it sure looked odd.

Seems not really addressed here:
ART. 7 . . . Neither jumper shall: a. Touch the tossed ball before it reaches its highest point. b. Leave the center restraining circle until the ball has been touched. c. Catch the ball before the jump ball ends. d. Touch the ball more than twice.
