There's no tying in baseball...

(Except at All Star Games, of course)


Peter is the mathemtician and probably can come up with the exact odds, but I remember reading in my college physics class that the odds of two nearby events ocurring at exactly, nay, precisely the same point in time are astronomically against it.

Although we may perceive such with our human limitations, in physical fact of life, there is no tie at first. Something happenef first. It is the umpire's job, using all information available to him, to decide what that was.

Which would you rather say to an informed coach:

1. Tie goes to the runner.
2. Runner beat the ball.
