We just chuck of we have the end off. Some may chuck with an open hand if they have both wide outs off the line. That will let the BJ know if the TE is eligable if on that side. If both wings are chucking, or if one is chucking with an open hand, then we count the backfield. Obviously if there are 3 more then we have only 6 on the line.

To do all this touching of the thigh, the belt, the hat, picking your nose, whatever is fine and dandy but if the crown of the field if pretty high and the wings are pretty short then it may not be possible to see them. Also it can be difficult to count linemen from straight accross. I had a tackle that was so big he covered up the guard and most of the center. I'm 6'5" and could not see the guard once they got set.
