After reading those same threads, rstaggs23, I looked at the Hoka Bondi, in part because of the cushioning, and thought they look just fine. I found the toe box too tight for me, however.
A quick search just now for "hoka" turned up four threads where they are mentioned or discussed; the titles of the threads are about things like knee pain. One issue seems to be the "drop," the height of the cushion, if I understand it correctly.
