Mike, you are correct about “Player” use of headsets or other unauthorized equipment during an authorized conference and 1-5-3b confirms this. I learned this the hard way. I didn't pay attention to the “player” status when I marked my answer to this question on this year’s test. As far as your concern about substitutes, maybe 3-7-4 will help “ During the same dead ball interval, no substitute shall become a player and then withdraw and no player shall withdraw and re-enter as a substitute, unless a penalty is accepted, a dead ball foul occurs, there is a charged time-out or the period ends.”
