We had the pitcher step off, throw home, catcher stepped on home, umpire called him out. But my question is if he missed home and went to dugout, wouldnt he be automatically out? I guess either he touches home or he doesnt and if he doesnt, whether the defense appealed or not, shouldnt he of been called out?

A missed base is assumed to have been touch unless appealed. Same at every base.
If there had not been an appeal the run scored.
