We have a couple weeks of scrimmages but we only need 1 hour of scrimmage time to be considered good. Have fun out there John

First Match is this Saturday 8/16- Quad, best 2 of 3's. We had our annual scrimmage meeting this past Saturday 8/9 with 5 courts going on. Two clinicians per court. Lots of fun.

Each scrimmage here has a lead official who everyone reports to and checks in with.As far as match length we just go the standard 2 of 3 or 3 of 5 and rotate every few points depending on how many officials are at the scrimmage.I'm also going to a camp in two weeks to be observed as a line judge candidate by the area's college conference supervisors.Working multiple days a week a lot of the season.

In my area of Michigan, we have our big association training meeting and varsity scrimmage this Saturday, and I also have a two team varsity scrimmage on the 20th. First real matches are on the 23rd and it's almost every day the follow week of either tourneys or matches (sometimes both due to a late schedule change).

I've got one day the week before Labor Day I'm not thrilled about, but I will do it.

9:00 am JV tourney, which according to the assignor and AD, should be done by 3:30. This will give me the 1 hour to get the 45 minute drive in to my Freshman match. The tourney was scheduled by the assignor for 9-27, but was moved this year to 8-27 by the school.

Since school doesn't start for public schools until the Tuesday after Labor Day, so that week is tourney central.

I got a tournament (freshman) at the end of October. Here a majority of public schools use what we like to call the split triple:both lower level matches (jv and freshman) play at 3:15-Varsity R1 works JV and Varsity R2 works Freshman both by themselves. They then come together and work varsity. At facilities with only one court it goes Freshman,JV,Varsity. Our first allowable match day is 9/2 and we finish 11/6 with regular season.Post-season starts the next week

Tonight's the night!

Scrimmages begin today. My first is this afternoon. Can't wait since this is the start of my second season, and I'm hoping/anticipating that the game will begin to slow down for me. The regular season begins on the 25th of this month.

First official matches are on the final Friday of the month. By some odd quirk, my first 15 matches of my fall season are all in the same state...and not the one I live in.

All went well. I was rusty, but I felt like the game was indeed slower. It was a good starting point.

I hate working split triples. I have more issues with coaches on JV/Freshman matches in these situations than I ever have in varsity matches. (My only red card issued was in one of these type matches, but that's a whole mess on it's own). The coaches will always find something to complain about that you can not possibly see working a match that should have 2 officials by yourself.
