Derryl suggest that I come visit over here! I'm a basketball and softball official looking to add volleyball next year.

What are some good websites, books, software etc for learning the rules and mechanics?

This will be my project for after the basketball season!

Is there software like Rulebox available?

Thanks for the help!

USA Volleyball Officials Training & Education

While geared toward USA Volleyball, it's applicable to PAVO and, in most respects, NFHS as well. There are rules differences to be sure, but the techniques are valuable across any rule set.

For people who want to improve or learn, that website should be required viewing.

Moosie-did they give you an idea of what the instructional process is like? I had to take a combination of 26 hours of classroom and on court instruction.22 hours of classroom & 4 (minimum) on court.I did way more than our minimum-must've done close to 20 hours of on court training. Here the instructional staff fills out observations during summer league with one question in mind "Is this official capable of working a sub varsity match on their own?"My first couple of days were filled with no evaluations. Then found a groove and got yes's on every match but 1 (on the varsity court). On the last day I finally got a yes on the varsity court.

Your secret is safe on this forum.;)

This is my first season of volleyball. I'm enjoying it immensely. There is only 1 week left in the regular season. IMO, it's a fast moving sport, but the officials don't.

Two hints - 1) look for a mentor - know someone from BB or SB that does VB? & 2) attend some matches. When is the VB season in your area? Sound familiar?

Yes! The Professional Association of Volleyball Officials have set up Rulebox. It is set for the NCAA women's college volleyball rule set, but they have a summary of the rule differences available. Look for PAVO RefSchool for the RuleBox software.

Bring it on!

The post season begins tonight. Unlike BB or SB, I will be working as a LJ. Volleyball - you gotta luv it!

Thanks, they'll get my best of course. Plus, I have the pleasure of knowing and having worked in BB with all 3 of my evening's partners.
