Multiple Subsitution
 

Team A is granted a substitution. After the substitution is completed, team B's coach requests and is granted a timeout. At the conclusion of the timeout, team A requests another substitution. Should this substitution be granted or denied? Why?

NCAA rules: 11.3.3.2.6

A team is not allowed to request consecutive interruptions for substitution until after the next completed rally or a timeout is granted to either team.

Based on this rule, the substitution is allowed because the timeout occurred between requests.

Is the rule different for NFHS?

per NFHS rule 10.1.3

Each team is permitted only one request for substitution during the same dead ball. Other requests for substitution by the same team shall be denied.

Therefore, team A may not be granted two substitutions in the same dead ball stoppage.
