What is the Proper Signal?
Ball is mis hit on teams first hit and goes off at an unplayable angle toward an vacant corner of the floor and lands very close to the line. What is the proper signal?
Here is what I am thinking, and wondering! 1) I think if the ball lands out of bounds the proper signal would be signal 10 ball touched. 2) If the ball lands in the court I think the proper signal would be signal 13 ball lands in bounds. 3) those are for calls where it is easy to tell if the ball is in or out, my real question is what do you all call when the ball is very close to the line and you can't tell if it actually hit in or out, and your line judge either isn't signaling anything since it was a lousy hit, or they are signalling a touch? I know it doesn't really matter which you call it's a fault on that side but was just wondering what the proper call should be and specifically what you call when the ball is so close you can't tell in or out, I'm thinking safer to go with touch call because then it really doesn't matter in or out but was just looking to see if anyone else had any words of wisdom. Sorry this is just one of those things that starts going through your mind when your up for a JV match and you have a lot of miss hit balls! :D |
3) Go with what you saw. Have an opinion.

Agree with Felix. Go with what you see unless you're informed differently.

And what do you call on a ball that is touched and hits a wall? Touch or out?
I call 'out', just like a pass that hits the ref stand or a third hit that hits the ceiling. What about a shank into unplayable area, the stands for instance? j |
