This is more in the nature of a poll, I guess.
In Virginia, the bigger schools play 3 out of 5 games for girls' volleyball, whereas the smaller schools play just 2 out of 3. (The boys, interestingly, play 3 out of 5--which might have Title IX implications). I was just wondering if there are other states out there that use a two-tier system for girls' volleyball? |
..
here in San Diego, its 3 of 5 for both boys and girls varsity, regardless of division. JV and Freshman are both 2 of 3

AZ is 2 out of 3 for all levels.

Pa lets the decision up to the individual districts or leagues. Generally speaking, the western part of Pa plays 3/5 and the eastern part plays 2/3. That goes for boys and girls. We are not using rally score yet, but when it happens I think we will be pretty much uniform throughout the state (I just don't know if it will be 2/3 or 3/5).

IL is 2/3 at all levels boys and girls. As for rally scoring I've heard we may be experimenting with it in a few years. Right now it is used in some non-state sactioned tournements

2/3 or 3/5
Is the answer dependant on rally scoring? I just read that the NHSA approved the rule change to rally scoring and we are to play 3 out 5. Will that apply at all levels?

Thanks for all your input. My original query appears to be a moot point now that high school is going to the 3 out of 5 rally format.
I'm not sure I see any advantage to waiting one extra year to implement the new format--but that's a decision for each state and or district to make I think. |
