Let the stupid questions begin!!!!

I get back on the court tomorrow for the boys season. I will be back to ask my usual stupid questions. Thanks for all the help in the past, I'm feeling like I need it. :)

Stupid Questions?

scrapper, the only truly stupid question is the one that you DON'T know the answer to that you don't ask. Otherwise, there is actually no such thing as a stupid question. Good luck as your boys' season gets under way.

Bring it!!!

It does open my eyes. Normally I expect stupid answers for my stupid questions, but it must be the way I deliver it. :D

Like the one time I asked the ref why I'm sitting their being delayed for five minutes in the middle of a match, then they proceed to call for my team to serve while knowing full well the opponents were out of rotation and my team was disoriented from just winning the point and right to serve, but my server gave a served good. They tried to lock the score by that method as the volley ended with the opponents winning the point. Then the last server went to serve again and then the ref now said, that they are now in the right rotation. Ummm, how did the ref knowingly allowed an out of rotation team to play, call for serve, allow the rally, and now awards the offending team and gets involved to correct the offending team to further allow my opponents an unfair advantage.

Okay, my question is what direction do players go to switch benches when game ending for non deciding game?

You seem to be in the Bay Area, correct? Do you know of any contacts for local off season leagues/tournaments?

Switching Courts following end of game/set

johnny,

For NFHS rules, at the end of the game, the players are directed to their respective end lines and then proceed counterclockwise (to their right) outside the pole to their new court/bench when the R1 indicates to change courts. If anyone goes to their old bench before proceeding to cross the center-line to their new court, it is a Yellow Card for delay administered at the beginning of the next game (I gave 3 UD Yellow Cards last night at a match - two to home team players at the end of game 2 and one to the visiting team libero after the conclusion of game 3...they all went to their old bench first instead of going immediately to their new bench area when they were leaving the endline to the left of the table.

Correct, I am in San Jose, Fremont area. The only tournaments, etc that I am aware of is NCVA club (which is USAV Junior Girls) following the end of the spring boys' season and NCS & CCS playoffs.

BTW, Scrapper...how has your season been going? No posts since your initial one. Has your season gone smoothly?

Smoothly, uneventful, even boring, unfortunately. Very little of interest for discussion in my matches this spring. Most have been 3-0 blowouts with no interesting plays (from a rule perspective). I'm getting a lot better at recognizing player positions for the receiving team at the serve. Still not tracking the back row during the play.

Mildly interesting event from yesterday. The JV team came onto the floor for the first set with two players wearing Libero jerseys -- neither of which was the listed Libero. The actual Libero wore a jersey that contrasted with both the "regular" JV jerseys and the two "Libero" jerseys. My R2 (actually the assignor for my spring season) told the coach that would not be acceptable in a Varsity match and then we just ignored it and played.

Good call.

So, Scrapper, was Rule 4-2 Penalty 4 enforced at the beginning of the match?
RULE 4 - Player Equipment and Uniform; SECTION 2 - LEGAL UNIFORM; PENALTIES...4. When a team cannot begin the match with six players wearing legal uniforms, a loss of rally/point shall be awarded to the opponent at the beginning of the match, and the state association shall be notified.
If not, why not? There is no provision for ignoring it even if it is for a JV match.
Just my 2 cents.

Nope.

Because it was a JV match. :)

Around here, uniform rules are pretty much waived for most JV sports. As long as you can tell which team they're on and they all have different numbers, play on.
