Can libero serve during club vball?

Will liberos be able to serve in the upcoming club volleyball season (as they were is AHSAA school vball)? I haven't seen the rulebook yet. My club is in Alabama, in SRVA.

The answer is a resounding "No!"

dvtaylor, let me ask you a question - was the Libero able to serve during club season last year? The obvious answer is "no."

The USAV rules are based on FIVB. FIVB rules only change each quadrennium. The next quadrennium ends after the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing. Therefore, the libero is NOT allowed to serve this year in club volleyball. In addition, I will bet that it will not happen for an absolute minimum of 5 years (following the 2012 quadrennium) and probably not happen then, either.

The whole idea of the Libero serving goes against the reason that the Libero was instituted in the first place - to add a defensive specialist to the game. NCAA decided to get creative when they decided to let the Libero serve. NFHS is only following the NCAA lead. However, USAV will only follow the dictates of FIVB.
