Dipsy doodle

OK, don't call me stupid here, but in every rules meeting or clinic that I have attended for years several of us who do not do club ball hear several colleagues talking about the "dipsy doodle." We just look at each other like it should be a flavor of a Blizzard at the Dairy Queen or one of Baskin Robbins' 31 flavors. Enlighten me and the rest of us lowly uninformed.... what the heck is it?

Well I have no idea what it implies in terms of volleyball.

Hmmm, is it a crappie fishing technique? Particular to ice fishing? Where you jig but make your jig dance around in a circle.

You've got me...

I have done club for 13 years now and the only thing that I can think that it refers to is a "floater" serve that acts like a knuckleball in baseball, but I don't know what your colleagues were actually discussing.

The dipsy doodle is slang in some regions for the quick sub that would either preceed or follow a libero replacment.

That sounds exactly like what they were describing --- but I still think it would be a great name for a flavor for a DQ Blizzard.:)

So does that mean that the person who is entering onto the court there, is like dipsy doodling as they step onto the court / leaving the court?

LOL's

I think that all my players are dipsy doodles, now! :D
