Screening

On average - how many times a year do you call screening? Or how many times have you called it ever?

Last year I polled some college refs I worked with. Most with over 20 years of reffing. A couple with 40+. Out of about a dozen, all but one answered that while once in a blue moon they have warned players of potential screening, they have never actually called one.

Never in my 9 years. Never seen it called.

(Now, I'll have it twice tonight!)

I've never called it in my 13 years. I did have a coach ask us to look for it against their opponent last week. It wasn't even close to being screening.

The next time I call it will be the first time I call it.

I realized that I didn’t answer my own question. I’ve never called a screening. And the last time I remember seeing it called was about 40 years ago.

What is screening in volleyball?

Lining up or otherwise acting so the receiving team can't see the serve.
