Tool Time

Can somebody explain what this mean?

Our region is trying to discourage teams from chants about the other team. (How high's the net? TOO HIGH! or You can't DO that!) Yesterday, the R1 stopped a team from chanting and the coach asked why they couldn't say "Tool time!". And I couldn't answer him because I have no idea what it means.

Anybody familiar with this?

Using the block to get a kill is referred to as "tooling" the block.

"Tool Time" refers to Tim Taylor's saying it on "Home Improvement."

I'm assuming the R1 was saying that it was akin to saying the opponent's block wasn't good enough.

Frankly, I don't mind the fun chirping in the men's game. Just watch the point scorers to make sure there's no trash talking through the net.

Got it. Thank you. Any idea what the derivation of that expression is? Just seems like an odd word to pick.

The block can be an additional "tool" in the attacker's "toolbox" to get a kill.

I heard a new one at my USAV Region tournament this season: "There's no court there." Of course, this was after an opponent's hit was a little out of bounds.

Seems all in good fun. I doubt anyone is mentally torn up about it.

You can do that.

There's a net there.

We like free points. (after a missed serve)
