Injury procedures

Last weekend, I had a player who cut her hand on the scorer's table. It was a small cut but was bleeding, and required a band-aid. Quick fix and there was almost no delay.

But I don't really know the rules that govern injury situations. Sometimes, there are time considerations, and sometimes it seems like we're supposed to give them as much time as they need to make a determination of whether the player will continue or be replaced.

I'd appreciate a rule-based explanation of how we handle injuries on the court. Thanks for any help.

FED: The coach has 30 seconds. At the end of that time, the coach must indicates that s/he wants a sub (or libero redesignation), or to take a TO. if the latter, at the end of the TO, the coach has the same options. If all TOs are gone, the coach must sub.

It's only the *indication* that's required. If the player is still injured on the floor, that play is not resumed until the player is safely removed.

Is this how is actually done where you are? Around here, it seems like we tend to just give as much time as is needed.

Yes -- although there is some leeway as to when to start the 30-second clock (so the initial time period might be 45-60 seconds)
