Ball in Batting cage
The court has a batting cage suspended above it. Plays as part of the ceiling.
Team B's first hit goes above, and then lands in the batting cage; the ball is still on Team B's side of the court. If we stop here, it's a clear replay. But... The batting cage isn't quite level and the ball keeps rolling and then comes to stop above Team A's side of the court. Ruling? Or, the ball's momentum causes it to roll across the plane of the net and then the ball rolls back and comes to rest above Team B's side of the court. Ruling? |

Whistle. Signal "Out of Bounds" as soon as the ball rolls along the suspended cage and passes the vertical plane of the volleyball net. Point, serve to Team A. Thanks -- agreed.
Had an interesting discussion on this at a match this week. Some wanted the replay because the batting cage (at least the "top" of it, as opposed to the side facing the playing court) was somehow different from other ceiling obstructions. |
