Tip for judging doubles?

Judging double contact on overhand sets is a constant struggle for me and I have almost no confidence in my ability in this area. Talking to a very good official on Friday, he said to me that if the player has gotten himself into a good position to play the ball and then it comes out funny, it's probably a double.

Does anybody else use the player's body position in judging whether the following contact was legal?

Yes. I use the player's position to help with my judgment in making the call/noncall. You're at where I was when I first started as a complete VB neophyte. I've improved, but it's a work in progress. Keep working, and seeing plays. The confidence will come.

That's definitely part of it but remember its all about the actual contact. Will I pass on one that comes out a little squirrely if the kid can't get their feet to it? Probably but I've always said if you cringe at a set (internally of course) it needs to be whistled.
